Baumgarten is a big name around the Seattle area due to his involvement with several local publications including City Arts, but he’s recently been in the spotlight for his new book, Love Rock Revolution: K Records and the Rise of Independent Music. The book highlights the formative stages of K Records as well as the Olympia music scene and the rise of bands such as Beat Happening and Sleater Kinney. Recently, Love Rock Revolution was on Elliott Bay Book Co.‘s Top 10 Best Seller list for Non-Fiction.

Another Rainy Saturday music blog says, “It’s a fascinating and thoroughly-researched book that should interest anyone curious about independent music, the Northwest, or the growth of a community or scene.” Baumgarten will be reading excerpts of the book at The Vera Project August 18th! The reading also kicks off a biweekly music journalism educational series this fall. More info on that soon, but don’t miss this great event!
