Beginning with the 4-track recording craze of the late 80s/early 90s and continuing with the proliferation of inexpensive new microphones and digital recording programs, home recording has increasingly become the norm. Students will begin with basic old school analogue techniques and explain how to get good sounds with minimal mics and tracks. Wondering what to buy to get your recordings off the ground? Discussions will cover new recording programs both Mac and PC, and what type of equipment to use. We’ll show you how to record everything from singer songwriters to metal bands, with the best strategies for limited resources. This class is designed to be tailored to what your musical interests are. For example, if you’re into Balkaan Folk / Easter European Polka, we’ll help you figure out how to mic your friend’s tuba.
After you complete the Home Recording Workshop you will have the basic tools to record your own band on your own terms.
