HOW YOUR GIFT HELPS
Your support for the Vera Project will ensure Seattle continues to have a home for all-ages music and culture. With your support Vera will:
Bring great music and visual art to all-ages audiences
Vera consistently hosts shows from today’s leading musicians, be they local, touring, established or up-and-coming. Artists as diverse as Iron and Wine, Brother Ali, Shellac, Talbot Tagora, Dan Deacon, Why?, Lightning Bolt, Common Market, Murder City Devils, The Duchess and the Duke, Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head, and tons more. And Vera hosts monthly visual art shows by a variety of current artists.
Provide hands-on education in music and art production
Seattle has a thriving music and arts industry – the music industry alone accounts for over 2,600 businesses, $1.2 billion in sales and $487 million in earnings – and Vera is hard at work developing the young sound engineers, recording technicians, event managers, poster artists and arts patrons that will keep Seattle’s culture going strong for generations to come.
Ensure young people have a voice in Seattle culture
Vera, in both principle and practice, fundamentally believes people have the ability and right to participate in and shape their culture, regardless of age.Vera is driven and governed by young people. Over 50 Members of Vera’s youth-led governance and hundreds of volunteers keep Vera’s concerts, art shows, classes and events going. At Vera young people work collaboratively with adults on everything from setting programming goals to fundraising to electing Board members.
Vera runs a tight and efficient ship, serving over 54,000 annually with a relatively modest budget of $564,000. Despite a tough economy and serving 46% more people, Vera’s cost-per-client went down from $14.18 in 2008 to $11.54 in 2009.
