The Vera Project

Vera’s silkscreen studio offers people of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to learn the art of silkscreening.

Since beginning as a co-op in 2004, the studio has been the workshop of many local artists and printers (beginners and pros alike) who’ve produced posters, t-shirts, comic books and more. Our poster design collective uses the studio to print posters for all the top touring acts that play our venue, as well as a variety of events hosted by The Vera Project. Furthermore, our talented instructors and studio monitors are all practicing designers and artists deeply committed to not only the educational but also the community missions of Vera. Many thanks to all of the volunteer instructors who keep the program up and running!

Vera’s Silkscreen Studio operates up to 15 four hour Open Sessions each month where individuals who have completed the pre-requisite classes may use our professional silkscreen lab to work on their own projects, for a nominal fee. There is always an experienced, friendly, and knowledgeable silkscreen volunteer to answer and assist you.

Our studio is available for use during our open sessions:

  • Mondays from 4-8pm
  • Tuesdays from 4-8pm
  • Wednesdays from 6-10pm
  • and the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month from 12-4pm.

Please call to sign up in advance for open sessions! To sign up you must have taken the VERA Silkscreen 101 class. Sign up by calling or coming by the office during open office hours (Tuesday-Friday 2-6pm, Sat 12-5 pm).

Open sessions are $8 per session, or you can purchase a punch card for $40 that is good for 8 open studio sessions.

The cost of the open studio fee includes: access to open studio sessions, on-premises use of Vera’s silkscreen, emulsion, emulsion remover, and packing tape.  You just bring your project’s image on a transparency (there is a Kinko’s nearby), ink, and the paper/textiles you want to screen on.

You can book the silkscreen studio to work on your project outside of open studio hours, or to work on multicolor apparel projects for $50/hr.  This fee covers the materials otherwise provided during open studio sessions, and one of our talented silkscreen professionals to assist you.  Note: You cannot book the studio without one of our silkscreen engineers, and booking the studio is subject to their availability.

If you’d like to sign up a group of 4 or more people, please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to ensure there’s enough space for you in the class you need.
