SILKSCREEN / SILKSCREEN STUDIO

Vera’s silkscreen studio offers people of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to learn the art of silkscreening.

Since beginning as a co-op in 2004 the silkscreen studio has been the workshop of many local artists and silkscreeners (beginners and pros alike) who’ve produced posters, t-shirts, comic books and more.  Past silkscreen programs have included Silkscreen 101, DIY Silkscreening, and Open Studios. Our Silkscreen lab is a nexus for emerging local talent and trains over 250 individuals a year. We have our own poster design collective and design posters for top touring acts that play our venue. Furthermore, our talented instructors and studio monitors are all practicing designers and artists deeply committed to not only the educational but also the community missions of Vera.

Many thanks to all of the volunteer instructors who keep the program up and running!

STUDIO USE:
Our silkscreen studio is available for use during our open studio sessions:

  • Tuesdays 3-7pm
  • Wednesdays 5-9pm
  • Thursdays from 2-6pm
  • and the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month from 12-4pm. (Note, time change!)

Please call sign up in advance for drop-in! To sign up you must have taken a class in Vera’s silkscreen studio. Sign up by calling or coming by the office during open office hours (Tuesday-Friday 2-6pm, Sat 12-5 pm). We now DO accommodate multi-color shirt/apparel printing during open studio sessions, BUT you must have completed the 202 Multi-Color Garment Class to use the press for this, and the fee is $10 (as opposed to the usual $7 fee).

Drop-in sessions are $7 per session, or $40 for a card that is good for 8 open studio sessions. (You can pay in advance, or the day of.)

The cost of the open studio fee includes: access to open studio sessions, on-premises use of Vera’s silkscreen, emulsion, emulsion remover, and packing tape.  You bring the image on a transparency (there is a Kinko’s nearby), ink, and the paper/textiles you want to screen on.

BOOK THE STUDIO:
You can book the silkscreen studio to work on your project outside of open studio hours, or to work on multicolor apparel projects for $35/hr.  This fee covers the materials otherwise provided during open studio sessions, and one of our talented silkscreen professionals to assist you.  Note: You cannot book the studio without one of our silkscreen engineers, and booking the studio is subject to their availability.
