Happy Together or “Felices Juntos” is a joint Havana-Seattle poster exchange project celebrating the dramatic improvement in Cuba-U.S. relations. First exhibited during the 12th Havana Art Bienal in Cuba, designers and illustrators from each city created silkscreen posters featuring a beloved cartoon character from each other’s culture. Cuban interpretations of Bugs Bunny and Fred Flintstone hang alongside Seattle versions of La Criollita and Capitán Plin (don’t feel bad if you’ve never heard of them!). Organized by Cuban graphic designer Darwin Fornés Báez and curator Yenela Miranda along with U.S. designer Daniel R. Smith, the exhibit features the work of 26 artists, all printed in Havana, including Vannessa Blea, Eroyn Franklin, Jeff & Frances Kleinsmith, Giselle Monzón, Fabián Muñoz, Idania del Río and many more.
Cuban organizer Darwin Fornés Báez will attend the opening and a short documentary produced in Cuba about the exhibit entitled “Happy Together” will have its US premiere.
