Play your first bedroom pop gig from your actual bedroom, or host a game night remotely with your friends! In this 2-hour video call workshop, you’ll be introduced to various free and open source tools to live stream from a phone or computer. Get a behind-the-scenes look at Vera Television (VTV), grasp the basics of capturing and recording video and audio, add overlays to make your stream look professional, and more! The workshop includes follow-along activities, pre-recorded videos, and access to some live streaming production guides written by Vera’s production team.
2021 Workshop Dates:
- Sunday, January 24, 3 – 5 pm
- Wednesday, February 24, 6 – 8 pm
Required Equipment: A phone or computer with stable internet access, preferably with a camera and microphone (can be separate devices).
Optional Equipment: Students are highly recommended to download and install OBS Studio as to follow along with some of the activities. If you are using OBS Studio or other streaming software in MAC OS, it is also recommend to install a virtual audio driver such as BlackHole (https://github.com/ExistentialAudio/BlackHole) to be able to stream your desktop audio.
About the Instructor: Lev Betron (they/them) is the Education Manager at The Vera Project. Lev fell into the world of multimedia production in college, while studying art and organizing concerts and video game events for thousands of participants. In 2014, they moved to Seattle and found their path as an educator and DIY community organizer. They have professional experience in college student advising, event management and marketing, youth camps, freelance graphic design, curriculum development, and everything in between. In response to the COVID outbreak, they’re now supporting the production and training for live and pre-recorded streams at The Vera Project.
