The Vera Project

The Small PA Mixing workshop is designed to familiarize students with running a small powered speaker system. Small PAs are generally used for band practices, acoustic sets, DJ sets, poetry readings, protests, or even house shows and shows in Vera’s gallery space!). Topics will include: speaker amplification and setup, practicing cable management and signal flow, using EQ to ‘ring out’ a room, and mixing for small room shows. By completing this class you are eligible to rent PA systems from The Vera Project and start the process to become an Assistant Live Sound Engineer.

Pre-requisites: Live Sound 101

This class is a prerequisite for the Front of House Mixing class at Vera Project shows and access to VERA’s PA rental system. Each Live Sound class unlocks new audio engineering volunteer shifts at Vera and eventually paid opportunities in and outside of the venue. Become a volunteer at Vera to access other audio-related educational programs such as tours, field trips, and internships.

COVID-19 Safety Information
All attendees (with the exception of youth under age 5) are required to present proof of COVID vaccination by bringing your original vaccination document or a photo/digital copy + ID to the workshop. Youth under 5 may provide a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the class. For the duration of the workshop, attendees will be asked to wear masks, maintain social distancing where possible and sanitize hands between use of materials or equipment. Please do not come to Vera if you test positive for COVID-19, are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms or if you had a recent exposure to someone with COVID-19.

Accessibility Information
The venue has two floor levels, and most classes take place on the lower level. A single-person lift provides access between backstage on the first floor, the stage platform, and the recording studio on the second floor.  Patrons may also access each level by taking the outdoor ramp pathways on the north and south sides of the building. Entrance and inside doorways are not automatic and may require assistance to open. The monitor mixing board has an adjustable table. Gender neutral bathrooms are located on the first floor and include ADA accessible stalls and sinks. Please contact Levin at if you have questions or accommodation requests.

Class Refund Policy
The Vera Project does not provide refunds nor reschedule tickets for other class dates. If you are no longer able to attend, you are welcome to transfer your ticket to another person through the SeeTickets platform or contact us to give your spot to one of our waitlisted scholarship recipients.
