In this 2-hour workshop, students will learn about different lighting instruments, how to hang and focus lights, as well as basic lighting console operation. Programming and operating lights at a live show is what sets apart a concert venue experience. Through interactive demonstrations, students will have a practical grasp on lighting concepts and systems. Participants of the class will also gain basic fundamental knowledge of working with an artist and their lighting needs.

This class is a prerequisite for volunteering for Lighting Engineer shifts at Vera shows.

COVID-19 Safety Information

All attendees (with the exception of youth 12 and under) are required to present proof of COVID vaccination by bringing your original vaccination document or a photo/digital copy + ID to the workshop. Youth 12 and under may provide a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the class. For the duration of the workshop, attendees will be asked to wear masks, maintain social distancing where possible and sanitize hands between use of materials or equipment. Please do not come to Vera if you test positive for COVID-19, are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms or if you had a recent exposure to someone with COVID-19.

Accessibility Information

There is one short (~5")footstep to access the lighting console in Vera's mainstage area. Vera is accessible through large (heavy) wide doorways from Vera's lower level entrance.
